Born in Lubbock, Texas, this “Journey” began with my father’s steady hand, no nonsense work ethic, and an individual common sense philosophy that continues to this day to inspire and empower me. By instruction and example he instilled a strong moral code and sound value system. He taught me humility in my personal beliefs, to be thankful and appreciative for this great country, and the life I have because I’m free! Diligence in work and satisfaction in a job well done sometimes bought personal things. However, my greatest joy was the inspiration I received when thinking about what to give family or friends. My very caring and loving father earned my undying respect.
I also received inspiration and guidance from seven very caring, intelligent, understanding, metaphysical mentors. The first of these was my Godmother, Jackie, who seldom missed morning Mass. (Roy, her husband, was my father’s second cousin.)
After Jackie was asked to be the Godmother for the baby, my mother was carrying and before I was born, she wrote in her diary “I feel in this life, I will not have any children of my own and so Jessie has no idea what her request means to me.” “I love Jessie and Gilbert, so if Jessie gives birth to a girl, I will name the baby Trinity (the baby will make three) and if it is a boy David. Thus, at her behest I was christened Trinity-Phyllis and was known by Phyllis until Jackie’s passing in 1979. I chose to honor her memory by becoming Trinity at that time.
The U.S.O. in San Diego became, after turning six, a second home. I entertained the “troops” sometimes on carriers alongside “Mr. Hope” with singing, tap dancing, and later, I added an acrobatic-baton routine. In the Navy Hospital in Balboa Park, I tapped, did acrobatics and sat on the beds of these wonderful boys singing, I hope, some of their favorite songs.
It was during one of those visits to the hospital as the troops with our chaperone was on one of the huge back elevators that a young man on a gurney, his operation had been for a head wound, was wheeled in beside us. My introduction to the words “The show must go on” came after seeing his stitches come open.
Never shy, I would start singing and ask those on the train, mostly service men to join in as the U.S.O. troupe would be traveling to distant cities or with my mother on our way to Texas during the black outs.
An unexpected influence in my life came from my fourth grade Methodist Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Holmes encouraged our class to read and interpret for ourselves the Bible verses in our weekly lessons. This freedom to question and explore was both empowering and humbling as we were encouraged to look beyond the allegories and sermonizing. This wonderful teacher furthered the foundation for my spiritual quest. Truly, Mrs. Holmes was a blessing in my life.
During my grammar school years we moved to El Cajon, a suburb of San Diego. While there I began to model, twirled my baton in parades, and in the sixth grade sang and appeared in “Alice in Wonderland,” the first, as it turned out, of many stage productions.
During my eighth year after we moved to La Mesa, another suburb of San Diego, my internal guidance began to make itself known. I was shown in a dream how to ride my new bicycle.
Persistent, my intuitive sensitive-self kicked in again in my ninth year: Trustingly, I revealed to my Godmother Jackie an innate understanding of human psychology concerning my mother: “I know there is something wrong with Mother, and I don’t know what it is but its ok!” Jackie was heartened and understood my dilemma, as did others on my father’s side of the family.
However, never accepted by my mother’s relatives, even many years later when she finally was diagnosed as bipolar, was the fact that my mothers’ erratic and sometimes violent behavior, especially towards me and my brother, was the result of something beyond her control.
Attendance in the Methodist Church for each service was 300 or more and by the seventh grade, I was allowed to sing with the adult choir. However, by my junior year when it was impossible because of other engagements to be there on Sundays (I was singing on channel 6 and most Sundays on channel 8 for a local religious TV program), I received from the Minister of Music what was for me a very special postal card. It read: “Phyllis your voice is truly missed and we hope you will return soon.” It touched my heart and as you can see I never forgot.
Through my late teens, the U.S.O. continued to play an important part in my life. I attended the same high school with ‘Star’, Dennis Hooper and we teamed our talents for the U.S.O, as well as performing in various other venues, that many times included the Navy Hospital in Balboa Park and the Army - Navy YMCA. Valerie our accompanist was a talented fellow high school student for many of these performances. She later became a much respected practice pianist for local and visiting operatic stars.
Dennis was seen by a Hollywood Scout in an Old Globe Theater Production and, as they say, the rest is history. Also, a fellow student Bob Turnbull, a couple of years after graduation was in some epic motion pictures. In later years, Bob was named by the then governor John Burns of Hawaii as “Chaplin of Waikiki Beach.” Bob and his wife continue in their "Turnbull" Christian Ministries.
Musical theater became my forte, and I was fortunate to have many leading roles in that genre. I had great respect for those who worked behind the scenes and after a few turns in the road I became one of them.
Spirit spoke “Common Sense is the God child of Wisdom.” It occurred to me and it would stand to reason would it not, that Musical Theater then must be the God child of Grand Opera.
And so it was, from yachts to jet-set parties in various San Diego resorts, to religious institutions and interdenominational church venues: Performances gave me the opportunity for contact with many diverse persuasions and contributed greatly to an understanding of and tolerance for all religious factions, and philosophies. In addition, as I encountered different persuasions, I learned to appreciate even more Jackie’s thoughtful teaching that gave me awareness and insight into the rich diversity of metaphysics.
For a time I considered becoming a Physical Education teacher. The love of sports continues…
While attending Chapman, a Christian College, now Chapman University, I studied among other things, Music, Comparative Religions, Related Philosophies, and Astronomy.
The husband and wife professor team that taught Astronomy had many novel conceptions and the spirited class debates contributed greatly to my re-awakening metaphysical process. I.e., I was introduced to Quantum Physics and other Dimensions. My personal take on Quantum Physics: “I’m everything and nothing; objectively measurable yet illimitable.
One question I’ll never forget from the professors: “How would you feel if you saw Hitler in Heaven?” One statement I’ll never forget… “The Jesus scenario has taken place before and some where right now it continues!”
It was an honor to have the lead of Eurydice in Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld,” the first musical production presented at the college.
Much later down the road, my spiritual education continued in Rev. Dr. Steven Paul Douglas’s Christian Church of Metaphysics in Long Beach, California.
During these amazing four years of intense study, I was also privileged to be the soloist at the Sunday evening services during which Dr. Douglas, brought through his physical instrument the Biblical “Old Prophet” Joshua, who then gave the sermon. I retain the tapes of many of these services.
An insatiable ‘Thirst’ to read, study and understand the ever present wisdom of the Sacred Sciences and other Occult mysteries dominated my free time, accelerating with lighting speed my individual progress, intuitive awareness, and latent gifts.
Third Eye meditations brought the trusted voices, and my self-confidence grew. Through these studies, I learned perseverance, that to “Know thy Self” is a continuing reality and to trust implicitly the Conscious Divine Presence within.
Consisting of at least thirty persons in a circle, classes were held in the upper room over the Sanctuary, in total darkness. Truly, I could not see my hand in front of my face. Dr. Douglas sat in a corner of the room with a pin light and announced to the class the name and location of the persons we were to visualize. We were then to state openly any impressions received.
From my very first attempt, and continuing thereafter, I was able to internalize, integrate, and process accurately information about individuals, ill or in trouble across the country. The accepted diagnosis’s was verified and noted by Dr. Douglas after each of these evening sessions.
Learning that this was indicative of one who is clairvoyant and clairaudient, I was in disbelief, and awe, and with more than a little trepidation. After an unexpected phone inquiry from a prominent church member, another special gift, the ability to understand and interpret symbols for dream analysis was realized.
The second stage of my spiritual journey brought me to the city of Upland for four years. Here, and this time not so far from my home, I became a student and a participant in the morning church service as a guest soloist twice a month at the metaphysical church ‘Astara’. (In the old tradition, influenced by the Spiritual Hierarchy ‘Astara’ was a Mystery School of initiation).
Studying more of the Mantic Arts (Occult/Secret) was amazing and included: Numerology, some Astrology, Tarot, Symbols, Color, Palmistry, Psychometry and Parapsychology. Parapsychology the organized, scientific investigation of paranormal phenomena began in 1882 with the foundation of the Society for Psychical Research in London.
After the Astara services, and for three successive years, I traveled to San Bernardino where I studied in the Native American tradition with ‘Red Eagle’ an Apache Medicine Man. (Included also in my heritage is Choctaw and I am a direct descendant of Pocahontas).
On my third visit, to ‘Red Eagle, I took with me a special young friend Gail who was attending college in Los Angeles. I met Gail at the metaphysical church Astara. After introductions and a little small talk, ‘Red Eagle’ excused himself for about five minutes.
When he returned he was carrying a large black bag. It was his medicine bag. ‘Red Eagle’ motioned me to come across the room and sit beside his chair.
He then instructed me to open the medicine bag, take out its sacred objects, and tell him their names and for what purpose they were used. In the millisecond, it took me to wonder how I was going to do this the words and explanation for each item was flying from my lips!
I was in awe and looked at him with unbelievable eyes. He spoke with a question. “Trinity who are you?” My intuition and vision from a previous life was now very strong. With tears in my eyes, I answered. “I’m your special granddaughter and the only one you allow to touch the sacred objects.”
‘Red Eagle’ then presented me with a Navajo Weaver doll. The inscription on the underside reads: To Trinity…Love…Grandfather Apache.
Now if all this wasn’t enough, my husband, who was a criminal attorney, asked me to check out classes to become a handwriting expert for court. I lacked three months of instruction and tests to that end when…On October 13, 1992 after twenty-five years of marriage, Andy suffered his second heart attack and made his transition. Needless to say, I lost interest in pursuing my graphology diploma. However, I am very astute at handwriting analysis and use it frequently in my practice.
During my last year at Astara, and after a meditation class, I was impressed to write the following:
Numbers are pure vibrations that relate when manifested to the corner stone and foundation of matter and to the rhythm of our breath.
THE FIRST PRIMORDIAL HUMAN SOUND WAS THE BREATH OF LIFE.
Conversely, each time we enter this three dimensional school room, Universal Letters form the codes and formulas for Experiencing Matter.
We first see and experience matter in the grandeur of Magnificent Color as presented through Mother Nature.
Our individual Soul Blueprint when we choose to Manifest into Form continues to carry, contain, and unite unique multi-layered Calibrated Vibrations that include Codes for Sound and Color. This blending of matter (Sound) and experience (Color), I hear as an unresolved discordant tone waiting, Waiting, Waiting to be resolved…or harmony in the making.
My re-awaking and learning experiences with Dr. Douglas’s classes and other profound studies at Astara gave me the confidence to begin Spiritual Readings or Channeling if you prefer. Many students through the years still stay in touch.
I sometimes see colors around individuals called Auras. For the most part I sense these colors in the same way I sense unseen Entities, Masters or Angels during spiritual sessions. I may use Body Scanning/Pathogens and Kinesiology to evaluate if any Chakras need nurturing or fine tuning.
Continuing my spiritual quest I under-took four years of intense studies within a private Metaphysical Seminary. It was here that I met the last and most brilliant of my mentors, Dr. Christopher Phelan, who was President of the seminary. Dr. Phelan was a 100% Irish Jesuit educated priest and he among twelve other spiritual professors from diverse vocations taught courses.
With Christopher’s encouragement, another intuitive gift was awakened as I rediscovered my connection with the Bible. From an early age, I seemed to possess an extensive knowledge of the Bible that could not be explained rationally until one day between classes the answer was provided.
Sitting in the garden, within the walls of the Old Catholic nun’s facility, I had a vision. In the vision, I became aware of myself as a hooded scribe/priest rewriting the Bible in the time of King James. I heard the King command that, “We should write neither to the extreme left nor right,” as he did not want a warring religious revolution on his hands. Therein, innate knowledge and understanding combined with the above studies have given me unique insights into "Ancient Wisdom."
I earned on April 26, 1987 a Doctor of Divinity Degree. Serving as a non-denominational spiritual psychologist/counselor these many years has been very rewarding. Ministerial duties include all Sacramental Ceremonies. It was during this time also that a prediction made so many years before by Dr. Douglas came true…I began writing.
Christopher was the officiating minister for my late husband’s memorial service and it was he who 3½ years later married my husband Paul and me.
I received my Cosmetology license in 1965 and was trained outside the school setting in the Motion Picture tradition as an Expert Make-Up Artist working for Production Companies, Stage, Cinema, and Television Studios.
My Professional Career began in 1966 as an Image Consultant - Beauty Expert. My Personal Star Reflection Portrait Makeup Artistry was retained by private clients, cinema, production companies, stage, and television studios.
Many prominent personalities in the entertainment field and their wives were included in my clientele. This enterprise was recognized in many periodicals, one article in particular appeared in two sections of the Sunday Los Angeles Times Orange County edition on August 13, 1967.
As a Spiritual Executive, I founded Star Reflections in 1982. The inspiration for and the nature of this company and its logo was spiritually conceived and has brought forth a new-age rejuvenation skin formula.
I’m currently writing my first (self help) metaphysical book, and I have written and compiled much poetry and prose. Additionally, I am very thankful and appreciative that I have also been able to pen some music and lyrics. |
