ACUMEN OF NATIVE AMERICAN TRADITION

Included in my heritage is Choctaw; I am a direct descendant of Princess Pocahontas.

Pocahontas was born about 1595-96, a daughter of Chief Powhatan who was over some forty Algonkian Indian villages. These were spread about the shores of the rivers now called the James and the York, which flow into Chesapeake Bay. The villagers named Chief Powhatan’s daughter Meto-aka and later "Pocahontas," meaning "Playful little Girl."

Entry in the Gravesend St. George composite parish register records
the burial of Princess Pocahontas on 21 March 1616/1617.
